The Chinati Foundation (contemporary art museum in Marfa, TX)

http://www.chinati.org/

Intended audience

(1) People plan to travel in Big Bend Area, TX, including art fans.
(2) Contemporary art lovers, who are prospective members / donors for the museum.
(3) Students look for internships.
(4) Local residents / parents look for art class for their children

Usefulness of content

(1) For visitors. Originally useful, but not well organized. As a result, not so useful. The visiting pages (in “VISIT”) include a bunch of information, such as museum hours and tour policy, accommodations, and directions. However, they are explained by many lengthy sentences with almost no title / entry / caption; the audience may get tired of reading it through. The enlargement of the map is unavailable.
(2) For art lovers / prospective members. Useful to know about the foundation history, background, and collection. Maybe not enough to know about incentive / merits if they join the membership.
(3) For prospective interns. Quite useful, including application procedure.
(4) For local parents. Partly useful. The site mentions only about summer program, but does not tell the details and how to join the program etc.

Consistency of design

Quite consistent. Simple but sophisticated. Moderate volume of white space, not “poor content” but not “too-much-squeezed information” the audience feels from the pages. The page headers are totally coordinated, including the “CHINATI” logo, and “VISIT”, “INFORMATION”, and “CONTACT”, and pictures / illustrations (maps) are always at left side.

Ease of navigation

Relatively easy. No horizontal scroll required. From any page, audience can go and back to any page with just one click on “CHINATI”, “VISIT”, “INFORMATION”, and “CONTACT”. However, the letter font in the pages may be a problem. It is relatively small, not easy to read for everyone.
