Go Fug Yourself

http://gofugyourself.typepad.com

GoFugYourself.com is a blog about celebrities and the sometimes disastrous clothing decisions that they make. The authors, Jessica and Heather, post to the blog 3 or 4 times a day during the weekdays, and each post contains a picture of a person and some text about their outfit. They tend to focus on mocking the clothing, although sometimes they also discuss current gossip. The idea of the blog seems to be a snarky take on fashion, much in the same way that TelevisionWithoutPity.com is a snarky take on television. This last is not surprising since (I believe) both authors were at one time employees at TWoP.

Oh, and for the uninitiated, "fug" is a portmanteau of the words "ugly" and the "eff" word.

Intended Audience
· Those interested in fashion and celebrity lives
· Those interested in making fun of silly clothing outfits
· A prerequisite with this site, in order to get some of the jokes, is a familiarity with pop culture references, especially dramas created by Aaron Spelling.

Usefulness of Content

· Since the content is about celebrities and their fashion choices/mistakes, the content is not useful at all in the grander scheme of life. However, if one is looking for some diversion, this blog provides plenty of that.
· Neither author attempts a professional critique of the clothing; they maintain a more genuine approach to criticism. If they believe an outfit is ugly (or "fugly") they will say as much on the site. Because their aim is to appeal to those interested in clothing, but who also know that fashion trends can be rather silly at times, their posts tend to be funny, without being mean.
· Both authors are good about making sure risque posts are not visible on the homepage, which is very important sometimes, since celebutantes are sometimes not careful about covering themselves up.

Consistency of Design
· The overall design layout is consistent, most likely because this is a blog.
· The text is black on white.
· There is a navigation bar at the top of all pages of the website, and the main content of each page is divided into three columns. The middle column is the widest, and this is where the posts are placed. On each side is a much smaller column that includes links to other sites, advertisements and internal site links, including pages devoted to the most "fugged"€ celebrities.

Ease of Navigation
· I find the site very easy to use and move around in, as long as I simply want to scan the most recent postings. And the "Frequent Offenders" listing is excellent if you're looking to read about one single celebrity's misadventures.
· However, if you're looking for a specific post about a specific person, the only option is to search through the archives month by month and do a "Control-F" search. Since the creators have the capability to tag posts for easy reference later, I think they should add more tags to their site. They have not added any new people to the "Frequent Offenders" listing in the past year and a half, and I feel that they should update this one feature.

Overall, I love this site as a distraction when I'm stressed and looking for a laugh. The writing is sometimes sharp and witty, and the images are always worth a look.
