Bookslut

www.bookslut.com

Intended audience: People who like to read or are interested in keeping up with the literary world.

Usefulness of information: The site has a lot of fun and good book reviews, so if you like to read, it’s a great place to go. They also have interviews with authors, a blog about things pertaining to the literary world, and columns about books of varying genres and even magazines and movies. The columns and the blog are usually pretty witty but can be a little pretentious and sometimes have more to do with politics than literature. Regardless, anyone who’s looking for a good book to read could find something here.

Consistency of design: The design is mostly consistent throughout, but quite simple. The same color scheme, image, and font are used on every page. If you click on the Reviews, Features, or Columns tab at the top, you’ll get to a page that contains just a list of everything that’s new in that section, and I think these pages could really use some images or blurbs. Also, there are a few weird alignment problems that occur when you click on some of the links, but it’s not too distracting.

Ease of navigation: This site is actually very easy to navigate. Everything that’s new for the month is presented on the homepage. Every page has seven links up top that take you to all the main pages, so it’s easy to navigate from one section to another. The book reviews are sorted into fiction, nonfiction, and poetry sections. The archives are clearly featured on the homepage, and there’s a search bar for anyone who’s looking for a particular title or subject.
